College Away from Home

Some people don't have the grand opportunity to go to college; let alone away from home. However I have been blessed with this gracious opportunity. Although I only have less than 100 days left until I graduate with my Bachelors of Arts in Broadcast Journalism, I am kind of tired of my school setting.

In the past, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) were established to give African Americans a chance at receiving higher education in an environment with peers that shared the same or similar interests. From even before I knew what college I would be attending, I always knew that whatever the school...it would be an HBCU.

For the past four years, I have grown as a young African American woman in an environment with peers that share the same or similar interests as myself but slowly this environment is getting old to me. Everyone is from generally the same area, dress the same, do the same activities and live the same routine day in and day out.

I'm so tired of this scene. Coming from Brooklyn, New York to Virginia is a major different. I need a faster paced environment and a mixture of people of different races and ethnicities. I'm not saying that I haven't appreciated the education and experience that I have gained while in school, but I'm bored. I need variety, I need excitement, I need to be home!! :(
